West Melton Gallantry         

George Sorby (23) a miner, of West Grove, Brampton, made a gallant rescue on Saturday, when Wilfred Griffen (9), of Packman Road, West Melton, fell into a disused clay pit at Brampton when playing with a number of other lads in the vicinity. 

Mr. Sorby, who was fishing heard a splash The homeand saw the lad struggling in the water which is 15 feet deep. Without hesitation Mr. Sorby threw off his coat and cap and dived, in,. Although he is only a moderate swimmer and that during the rescue the lad struggled Mr. Sorby succeeded in effecting the rescue.

Neither of  them were any the worse for ‘their experience
