September 1939

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 23 September 1939

Miss Annie Walton, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Walton, 5, Brampton Road, West Melton, was married on Saturday at Brampton Parish Church by the Vicar, the Rev. C. L. Suggit, to Mr. James Dale, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Dale, Carnlea Street, West Melton.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of Ivory cloque, a wreath and veil, and had a sheaf of lilies and carnations.

She was attended by Misses Annie and Amelia Dale, who wore lavender silk brocade, with veils and head-dresses to match, and had bouquets of carnations and scabious. The best man was Mr. Harold Dale, and the groomsman Mr. William Lee.

The service was choral. A horseshoe was presented to the bride by Master John Fennell (nephew), and Maisie Green (cousin).

A reception was held at the Brampton Mission Hall, both mothers wearing navy outfits. Mr. and Mrs. Dale will live at 61, Field Lane, Upton. Cortonwood staff gave the bride a chair, and Upton Colliery gave the bridegroom a radio.
