To Get Medal From Queen Mother
20 years’ good conduct in the Army has earned Warrant Officer John Chambers a medal and the privilege of meeting the Queen Mother.
John, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chambers of Westfield Road, Brampton, joined the Army 20 years ago when he was 18 and has since seen service in Hong Kong and North Africa.
Serving in the Army Catering Corps, he is at present attached to the Royal Hussars at Catterick and will receive the decoration from the Colonel-in-Chief of he Regiment …the Queen Mother.
Hope to Go
Mr. and Mrs. Chambers hope to go to Catterick in May to see the presentation and will spend a few days with their son and his German Wife, Eva, and their daughter Christina (15).
Later this year John and his family are to go back to Germany. With six years still to go of Army Service John is studying the managerial side of catering in the hope of finding a position of this nature when he returns to civilian life.
Mrs. Chambers senior says “We are proud of John and would like to watch the presentation but we understand that it is a very select ceremony and the chances of us obtaining passes are very slight.”
