Mr J Cowles (Wath) and Miss H Evans (Wath)

A nephew of Councillor and Mrs A Wild, and son of the late Mr and Mrs J Cowles, of “Twelve,” Fitzwilliam Street was, Mr John Cowles was married at Brampton Parish Church on Boxing Day to Miss Hilda Evans, only daughter of Mr and Mrs D Evans, 24 Hawthorn Rd, Wath.

The Reverend C Lesley Suggitt officiated. The organist was Mr Frank Wilcox.

Given away by her father, the bride wore oyster satin beaute, cut on classical lines, with embroidered train, heavily embroidered oyster veil and coronet, trimmed with lovers’ knots. She carried an ivory back prayer book. The bride was attended by Mrs Vera Edwards in blue figured lace over taffeta, and Misses Aline Wilde and Eileen Longden, in pink figured taffeta, Dolly Vardon headdresses and silver shoes. They carry posies of violets. As the bride left the church she was presented with a silver horseshoe by Veronica Edwards.

The best man was Mr L Firth and the groomsman Mr George Cowles.
