10 Months In Korea
Wath Soldier now on Demobilisation Leave
Beyond a single comment – “Rough!” – Fusilier Frank Harding, 111, Avenue Road, Wath, was reluctant to describe his fighting experiences during ten months in Korea. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernest Harding, said that Fus. Harding never mentioned in his letters any of his experiences in Korea. “He is a real solider for that,” she said. “He served right through the last war but never told us anything about it.”
Fus. Harding, who is 30, landed at Southampton from Korea last Friday and reached his home on Sunday night. He is now on demobilisation leave after a total of 12 years’ Army service. He was recalled from the Reserve in September last year and sent to Korea shortly afterwards. He has been demobilised from the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, but during his time in Korea was attached for periods to other regiments. Apart from a spell of five days leave in Japan he has spent all his time on the peninsula.
Before joining the Army Fus. Harding was employed by T. Wade and Sons, Wath builders, and while on Reserve by Messrs. Bramall and Ogden another firm of Wath builders. Fus. Harding intends to resume work with Messrs. Bramall and Ogden. He is engaged to Miss Evelyn Watson, of Wath.
