Beverley, 6, Loved the Sunny Weather

Mothering instincts have come early in life for little Beverley Robinson. Six-years-old Beverley, who lives at 14, Edward Road, West Melton decided this week to give her next-door neighbours’ children a special treat, and take them to the fair in Barnsley for the day.

Taking a, day off from Cortonwood Infants’ School, she set out with three-years-Old Garry Coates in one hand and his two-years-old sister Lesley in the other.

Taking all her savings to pay for the special treat, the trio boarded a bus bound for Barnsley on Tuesday, but Beverley’s mothering instincts came to the fore then and she realised her two “children” were tiring so they got off the bus at Wombwell, preparing to make the return journey.

Police were out searching for them throughout the afternoon and they were eventually found waiting for the bus to return home.

Beverley’ father, Mr. Sid RobInson said, “We took Beverley to the fair on Friday. I can only think she must have told the other children about it and decided to take them. It was very unlike her to take off for the day.”

Police undertook a widespread search to find the missing children, taking Mrs. Mavis Coates with them. Mrs. Coates was in a state of great shock.
