Another Scramble

Mexborough’s request for Old Denaby is not likely to be seriously contested except perhaps by the villagers themselves, who have a natural preference for low rates.

By the formation of the Conisborough urban district the parish of Old Denaby was practically cut off from its administering body, the Doncaster Rural District Council.

It is of no special value to anybody but Mexborough, but one day it will be Mexborough’s ” garden city.”

Wath is hoping to get a slice of Brampton as well as a slice of Adwick.

As with Adwick, there are three claimants for Brampton—Wombwell, Wath, and Hoyland. Hoyland is too far away to have a real chance of the colliery, but Wath and Wombwell both want it badly, and not only want it but need it.

No “thy-need-is-greater-than-mine” nonsense about them; each for himself and the devil is freely welcome to the hindmost.
