A telephone exchange was opened at Wath on Wednesday.
The Easter railway traffic from this district was the heaviest in volume since the war.
The Wath Amateur Operatic Society are performing the comic opera, “Erminie” at the Grand Theatre, Wath, each night of next week.
There is a considerable danger of a complete stoppage in the building industry on April 14th, arising out at the present dispute regarding hours and wages.
The death has occurred at Newcastle of Mr. J. R. R. Wilson, H.M. Divisional Inspector of Mines for the Northern District. Mr. Wilson was formerly stationed in Sheffield and was one of the survivors front the Cadeby Disaster of 1912.
To-day (Saturday) the local government electors of Wath and West Melton choose from 28 candidates an Urban District Council of 15 members, this being the first election under the ward system. Of the twelve retiring members, eleven are re-contesting.
The Mexboro’ Athletic Club, formed under the Miners Welfare Scheme, has just completed negotiations for the purchase from Captain Montagu of five and a half acres of land for the enlargement of the present Mexboro’ athletic ground and for the provision of a children’s playground.
