Commission

Mr. Frank Hoyland, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Hoyland, 16, Barnsley Road, Wath on Dearne, has recently received a commission in a special branch of the Royal Navy, and is now sub lieutenant, R. M. D. R.

He entered the service 12 months ago.

Educated at Mexborough secondary School and Cheltenham training College, he was on the staff of Wath National School for several years before taking an appointment at the hills boys’ school, Thurnscoe.

Mr. Hoyland was well known in the district, being an active worker in the connection with the parish church and several social organisations. His wife is on the staff of Bolton girl’s modern school.
