Sheffield United 100 Mexborough 133
Mexborough Win at Bramall Lane
Mexborough did well to win at Bramall Lane, where they beat Sheffield United on Saturday. United won the toss and put Mexborough in and the visitors were dismissed for 133. Mexborough’s first four wickets went for 13, and eight wickets were down for 79, C. Trueman (34 not out) and E. Plummer (52) put on 54 for the ninth wicket, and with C. Guest (21) were the chief scorers. Plummer had a narrow escape from being run out when he had scored seven. S. Padley (5 for 39) and J. Mullen (3 for 43), did well with the ball for Mexborough and United lost two wickets before a run was scored and four were down for 15. B. Wragg and J. S. Oswald put on 41 for the fifth wicket, and Oswald and Lynch 25 for the sixth wicket, but this resistance was short lived and United were all out for 100.
Denaby & Cadeby 139 Swinton 140 for 9
Swinton Snatch Victory
Swinton had to thank their wicket-keeper, Parkin, for their victory over Denaby, at Denaby, before the biggest crowd of the season on Saturday, Parkin defied the Denaby bowling, which at one period was vey effective. Denaby who were without Poole, reached a total of 139 (Smith 21, Robinson 35, Newton 11, Wardle 23, Porter 12). Swinton met with early setback, losing their first four wickets for 30. The Denaby bowlers were doing well, having captured seven wickets for 81, and the ninth at 112. The Denaby fielders became too eager and made several poor returns and three times Parkin was unfortunate to get home. For Denaby, Wardle took 6 for 68, Porter 3 for 51, and for Swinton, Ellis took 7 for 65 and Vickers 2 for 64. Swinton’s total was 140 for nine (Parkin 70 not out).
Hickleton 125 for 3 Bullcroft 122
Easy For Hickleton
Bullcroft’s depleted team were no match for Hickleton at Thurnscoe on Saturday. The visitors were soon in difficulties against the bowling of J Reilly and W. Lockwood. Losing their first six wickets for 49 runs. J. Hopwood with a confident 42, and G. Saddington, (26), lifted the score, but J. Westerman (17), was the only other player to reach double figures in Bullcroft’s total of 122. Hickleton lost Alban Turner with 13 on the board. H. Riley, joined by Threlfall took the score to 59, Riley going for 18. Threlfall (63 not out) and G. Gibbs, (24 not out), carried the score to 125 for three. The former hit eleven fours in a faultless innings. J. Riley for Hickleton, took 5 for 53, J. Sanderson 2 for 10 and W. Lockwood 2 for 43.
Thurcroft 124 for 3 Wath 122
Wath Well Beaten at Thurcroft
Wath lost by seven wickets at Thurcroft on Saturday, being dismissed for 122 (Ellis 37). Horridge took 7 for 25 for the winners who replied with 124 for 3, Fish 44 not out, Marshall 25 not out.
