Killed In Battle Accident

Tpr. Edwin (Eddie) Parden (25), of College House, Brampton, has been killed in a battle accident whilst serving with the Royal Tank Regiment.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Parden, formerly of Jump, and now of Bradford.

Tpr. Parden was one of General Montgomery’s “desert rats.”  He fought all through the North African campaign unscathed, and then took part in the landings at Salerno.

The incident occurred when he was on his way up to the front line in Italy on June 23rd.  He was buried just outside Naples three days later.

He was married to Kathleen, twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Clark, of College House.  Before being called up at the beginning of the war he was manager of a grocer’s shop at Bradford.  He is an old pupil of Wombwell Modern School.

About 12 months ago one of his brothers, Raymond Parden, serving with the Marines, was drowned at sea.  Lewis, another brother is still with the Marines.
