Chief Supt To Retire

Chief Supt To Retire After almost 40 years in the police force, Chief Supt. Rufus Winstanley, of “tree Tops,” Cliffe road, Darfield, is to retire in January. He has been chief superintendent of Barnsley division of the west Yorkshire (formerly west riding) police force since 1960, and for five years before that was superintendent. Mr. Winstanley is a native of Wath. A son of the late Mr. And Mrs. E. Winstanley, formerly of Burman Road. His family is extremely well known In Wath On Dearne, where he has many connections. He is an old boy of Wath Grammar School, after police training at Wakefield, Mr. Winstanley went on the beat at Holmfirth and then at Saddleworth, and was promoted sergeant on being transferred to Halifax. He then moved to Hemsworth and was promoted inspector when he moved to Morley. He was made chief inspector at Shipley and then moved to Barnsley in 1955 with the rank of superintendent.
