Two Late Goals Save Manvers
A late revival by Manvers gave them a share of the points in their home match with Sheffield United Reserves on Saturday. United led 4-2 until about five minutes from time when through Edwards and Brown, Manvers got two goals in as many minutes to force a draw. First goal went to Manvers after ten minutes, Phillips scoring from a centre by A. Vickers. Vickers added another after Staniforth had equalised. Two goals by Christopher put Sheffield a goal ahead at half time. Staniforth made it 4-2 after 50 minutes, and United seemed well on top. Edwards’ goal was scored from 35 yards, and went into the net off the crossbar. Brown scored his goal after Burkinshaw had tested Parkin in the United goal. A. Vickers was outstanding, with Phillips and Ryles in Manvers forward line; Bratley, Horner and Rooney worked hard against a clever attack.

Wath Impress at Sheffield
R.A.S.C. and Wath Wanderers drew 4-4 at Sheffield on Saturday. For R.A.S.C. Davis was early dangerous, and he and Regan cleverly worked the ball half the length of the first for Davis to centre to Calverley who beat Fenton. Wath settled down and clever play by Morgan and Walters sent Stephens away on the right. He beat Downing and Glover, and centred for Darley to equalise. Wath quickly scored again. Bell tackled Davis successfully and gave to Wardle, who centred for Walters to score. R.A.S.C. defended well but Stephens, picking up a clearance from Godfrey, beat several men and gave Darley an easy opening from which he scored. Hunt beat Methley and gave to McKay, who got R.A.S.C.’s second goal. Davis was dangerous and was well held by Bell. Walters receiving from Morgan gave Darley a clear opening and he raced through to score. R.A.S.C. came again and Regan walked the ball through. R.A.S.C. equalised in the last minute. Hurst taking a free kick from 40 yards out, lobbed the ball into the goalmouth. Fenton was hampered, and the ball rolled into the net.

Denaby Lose by Odd Goal
Denaby were beaten 2-1 at Thurncroft on Saturday. McArthur and Hardy scored for the winners, and Denaby’s goal was obtained by Raynor. Drury, who played well in goal for Thurncroft, has been signed by Sheffield Wednesday.

Goal Storm at Upton
A dozen goals, several of them scored in rapid bursts, and almost continuous thrills, were the features of a fast and entertaining game at Upton, where Frickley were beaten 7-5. Although fielding a weak team owing to an injury to Wildman (goalkeeper), and the failure of two other players to appear, Frickley gave their neighbours a rousing game but paid the penalty for defensive lapses which were exploited fully by a lively Upton attack.
The thrills began midway through the first half, when four goals were scored in as many minutes. First success fell to Upton, when White scored. Cox scored for Frickley, but was given offside. Two goals by Coope put Frickley in front, only for Leighton to equalise. The Upton goal had several remarkable escapes in the next few minutes, but White restored the lead after 32 minutes. Upton’s opportunism gave them a commanding lead when Fowler scored twice within a minute on resuming, but Frickley hit back, and after Wright had shot outside from a penalty Coope completed the hat-trick. Straight away, Carver ran through and hit the Upton post. Upton had a turn, and White and Leighton completed their account by scoring within a minute of each other. Still Frickley refused to go down without fighting, and in the last few minutes Dickens and Cox scored to complete one of the most exciting games there is likely to be at Upton this season.
Upton had a dangerous outside-right in White, and a scheming inside-left in Humphrey, but their defence wavered almost as much as Frickley’s at times. Nicholson (right back) was outstanding for Frickley.
