Fashionable Wath Wedding – Gough & Hatton

A fashionable wedding took place at the Wath-on-Dearne Parish Church on Saturday, when Miss Mabel Constance Gough, only daughter of Mr, and Mrs. J. S. Gough, of “Cassville,” Woodland Road, Wath, was married to Mr. Charles Donald Hattan, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hattan, of Furlong House, Goldthorpe. The bride’s father is well known in Swinton as the headmaster of the Boys’ Department of the Bridge Street School: the bridegroom is a chartered accountant, and the bride-groom’s father is the brick manufacturer of Goldthorpe.

The officiating clergyman was the Rev. B. Russell. the Vicar of Wath. The service was choral, and the hymns “Gracious Spirit, Holy Ghost” and “How welcome was the call.” were sung. Mr. S. Hampshire being the organist. Mr. Marcus Hattan (brother of the bridegroom), was the best man, and Messrs. H. A. Rex. Gough (Nottingham), G. Beaumont (Bolton-on-Dearne). and R. Garratt (Nottingham). were the groomsmen.

Given away by her father, the bride was attired in a charming mediaeval gown of ivory and silver cloche, with flowing veil and halo head-dress of pleated (tine surmounted with orange blossom. She had a string of pearls with a marguerite masp, and carried a sheaf of lilies.

She was attended by four bridesmaids: Kathleen Skelton (Rotherham). Doreen Skelton (cousin, Wath), Mary Noble (Huddersfield). and Joan Brooke (NV/4th). They wore picture gowns of claret taffeta with panels of cyclamen pink and delphinium blue. The whole was connected at the waist-line by a gauged disc of three colours — and the puffed sleeves were treated in the same manner. They Lad halo head-dresses also of three colours, gauged, and ruffled. They carried silver compacts, the gifts of the bridegroom, and posy bouquets of lilies to tone with their dresses. A reception was held by the bride’s mother and father at the Masonic Hall. Swinton, the bride’s mother wearing a gown of sapphire blue figured velvet, and the bridegroom’s mother, a Viennese gown in black and gold. The bride and bridegroom later left for their honeymoon which is being spent in London.
