Romans in Dover

Dr. Kenneth A Steer, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Steer. of Ellis House. West Melton, and Senior Investigating Officer to the Royal Scottish Commission on Ancient Monuments, is at present engaged in a search for traces of Roman Dover among the war ruins in the centre of the town. It may be the last opportunity to settle some of the outstanding doubtful points of the town’s early history, for the Dover Town Council are anxious to get on with the rebuilding of the centre of the town.

Once that has been dome, it may never again be possible to carry out extensive excavations.

Dr. Steer was invited under the auspices of the Excavating Committee to start the search for Roman Dover.
