The photograph of a pond at West Melton in the old brickyard, which Mr. William Whiteley, the landlord of the Red House, West Melton, who is shown with the rod, has obtained and stocked with fish specially for the use of the Red House Fishing Club.

Mr. Whiteley has been a leading figure in the revival of the old time sport of fishing in the West Melton district. About 300 fish, which included fine specimens of roach, golden carp and perch, have been put in the pond, so when the next fishing season opens there will be ample sport for the members.

The prospect of good fishing in the immediate neighbourhood will be a great incentive to local anglers. The club has now a membership of 33, but it is anticipated that this number will increase.

Mr. T. Marsden is the president, Mr. H. Holmes, of Hoober, secretary, with the following members of the committee: Messrs. E. Race,. J. Wright, A. Cocking, J. Kemp, and T. Mapplebeck. The club has made a presentation in the form of a purse of fishing tackle to Abe Fereday, who has been a stalwart of the club.

Mr. Whiteley’s efforts and interests are not only connected with the fishing club, but he also takes a lively interest in the Rotherham Road Athletic Club.
