Denaby United and Wath Athletic Win Replays.

Two ties in the first round of the Sheffield Senior Challenge Cup (Invitation tournament) were replayed yesterday afternoon. Denaby United beating Rotherham United Reserves 3ā€”2 at Millmoor, and Wath Athletic beating Worksop Town sā€”l at Wath.

A high wind and a heavy ground made the conditions bad at Millmoor, and the game on the whole was scrappy. Denaby were the more methodical side and deserved their success. Murden gave Rotherham the lead soon after the start by mean of a clever shot, but Hill equalised the scores from a penalty kick, given for foul on L. Green.

enaby took the lead immediately after the interval, L. Green netting, but Reynolds made the scores level. In the last few minutes Hancock placed Denaby ahead, following a scrimmage the Rotherham goalmouth.

Only about 40 spectators attended the Wath – Worksop replay, which the former won 5 ā€”1. For the first hour there was not much between the two teams, though Wath just about deserved their 2ā€”1 lead at, the time but after this Worksop fell away badly and in the last half hour the home forwards pressed hotly. The .scorers were F. Moore (two), Nicholls (two) and Hargreaves, for Wath, and Frith, for Worksop.

Eagle, the Wath goalkeeper, was much in the wars, and twice had to be taken off with injuries to the face. The second time did not return, Bratley taking his place in goal. Outstanding men were W. Moore and Nichols, for Wath, and Dean, for Worksop.
