Wath Wants A Secondary School.
At the annual meeting of the Wath-on-Dearne Urban Council last night, Mr. William Hallett was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr. A. Branham was appointed vice-chairman
The Chairman, in his review, referred to the housing and town planning scheme, and also the question of a fitting war memorial, which the Council had to face during the year, and in regard to the latter he said the sum of about £2.000 would be required.
A discussion ensued with regard to the overcrowded state of the Mexborough Secondary School, and Mr. A. J. Thompson, one of the governors, asked the Council for a mandate to support a scheme for the erection of an additional Secondary School at Wath-on-Dearne for the convenience of students of the Wath, Bolton and Thurnscoe districts. It was pointed out that the Mexborough school, which was originally built, to accommodate 350 students, had now 507 the books, and the contention was that it would better to erect an additional school rather than enlarge the existing buildings.
Ultimately it was decided to give the mandate asked for, and also urge upon the West Riding Education Authority the importance the erection of a new Secondary School at Wath.
