Alleged Unlawfully Wounding a Sister at West Melton.
A young man named Albert Burton, of Firth road. West Melton, was charged with having unlawfully wounded his sister.
Mr. Hickmott, who appeared to prosecute, said the prosecutrix was unable to appear. He would, therefore, call formal evidence and ask the magistrate to grant an adjournment for a week.
Police constable Oxley said he apprehended the prisoner on Saturday night about eight o’clock, and charged him with having wounded his slater with intent to do her grievous bodily harm. He replied “I did it”.
“Major Hammond, Superintendent of Police, said the prisoner had nearly strangled the woman.
lt appeared that the condition of the woman was such that she was not fit to leave her bed. Prisoner, it was alleged, inflicted the injuries when in drink. When picked up, the woman seemed to be dead. Dr. Burman was called in.
Remanded for a week.
