An Important Year for Councils.
Now that the Urban District Council elections have been decided, the next thing for local authorities to consider is the selection chairmen. The present year, despite its unfavourable opening, is likely to be one of unusual importance to the townships of this district, and with progressive schemes hotfoot on the way, the value of good leadership will be indispensable. Therefore it behoves the Councils to exercise a wise sense of discrimination in filling their chairs.
At Mexborough it probable that Councillor J. Wood will be selected chairman. He had the satisfaction of easily heading the poll, and as this is his third term of office he will have gained the experience essential to the position.
The Wath ratepayers have shown an appreciation of the fitness of things in once again returning Councillor W. H. Hallatt to the Council. His public spiritedness and the capability showed in the chair last year make it questionable whether Wath could do better than have him the head of local affairs once more. As for the other Councils of the district, it also imperative for them to take advantage of the best available guidance, for town planning is likely to figure almost immediately in the local picture: whilst there more than an outside probability of public baths taking concrete shape in several places
