Assault on a Schoolmistress at Wath

Annie Trout, of Wath, was summoned for having assaulted Elizabeth Moyniham, on the 17th inst.

Mr. Hickmott prosecuted on behalf of the managers of the Catholic School, Wath and said that on the day named, defendant sent one of her children to school in a dirty condition, and Miss Moyniham, the schoolmistress, sent the child home to be washed.

Directly afterwards the defendant came to the school along with the child, and commenced to use filthy language in the presence of the school-children. Before she left she struck Miss Moyniham in the mouth.

Elisabeth Moyniham was called to bear out Mr. Hickmott’s statement. She said that on the day named, defendant’s child came to school in a very dirty condition, and was not fit to sit near the other children. Defendant brought the child back and used most filthy language. She also took a book from another child of here, and threw it across the schoolroom, afterwards striking witness in the mouth.

A fine of 10s., including costs was imposed.
