Batsman’s Day at Bolton.

The match at Bolton was drawn and at no stage held out much promise of any other result—except, perhaps, for a short spell between the fall of the first and fourth Wath wickets, when there might have seemed a sporting chance of the Bolton bowlers getting Wath out. It was young Feirn who put paid to that hope and helped to carry on the match to its foredoomed conclusion.

Bolton put up a strong show with the bat and the notable item of their innings was the extensive third-wicket partnership of Probert and Potts, which added well over 100 runs to the total. Both men got over 80 and Potts made his best effort of the season. Wath were largely indebted to Bernard Senior, who played a sturdy defensive game in face of some early Wath disasters; and to Feirn, who is rapidly justifying the earlier hopes held out for his development into a useful player.
