Books and Wath Mechanics’ Institute
In adopting the Libraries Act, and sending out batches of books to various districts in the Riding, the West Riding Authority are beginning where the Yorkshire Unions of Mechanics’ Institutes’ began many years ago.
With its old Mechanics Institute, Wath were members of the Yorkshire Union Prior to the year 1881 and from then onwards, boxes of up to date books on loan came regularly once a quarter from the head office at Leeds, and were widely read by the members.
If the West Riding Authority. However, obtain a grant of £6,000 from no Carnegie Trust, Wath may expect to receive a regular supply of useful literature from this source.
Wath Mechanics’ Institute.
And this is where our popular Mechanics’ Institute is a never-failing source of supply of both literature and education, coupled with ample recreation for its members. Its bookcases are stacked with entartaining and instructive literature; its reading room is the daily and nightly rendezvous of those who wish to read the daily and weekly papers—and there is a goodly number of the fair sex amongst the members.
Its educational work has been productive of many of the students obtaining lucrative posts; and the recreative side enables young and old after the daily toil to indulge in billiards, chest, waist and dominoes, in well ventilated. and well lighted games’ rooms.
Yes, we are proud of our Mechanics’ Institute.
