Wath’s Narrow Defeat

Brodsworth  112   Wath  107

In spite of brilliant bowling by J. Pope (6 for 14) Wath were beaten by five runs by Brodsworth.

In the second over Pope clean bowled Liberty and Hutchinson, and of the fifth bowl had Smith caught at the wicket. Seven wickets were then down for 57 runs, of which Hart had scored 42. Sensical (10), Cowlishaw (18 not out), and Hanson (21), improved Brodsworth’s position and the innings realised 112. F. Fieldsend took 2 for 7.

C Heaton (25) gave Wath a useful start, but after their dismissal only W. Ripon (35) offered any resistance. Rippon made a splendid effort to score the required runs, but was caught out in an attempt to get at the bowling. Mountford (5 for 15) and Bullard (2 for 29) bowled well for Brodsworth.
