Captain R.C. Thomson.

On completing his period of adjutancy with the second Battalion of the York and Lanes Regiment in India, Capt R. C. Thompson, the younger son or Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Thompson, of ” Woodside,” Wath, reached England for six months’ leave on Saturday. The 2nd Battalion is shortly to leave India, and may be stationed in Egypt, but it is not yet known whether Captain Thomson will re-join them at the end of his leave.

Captain Thomson, who was promoted from Lieutenant on August 1st, has been with his regiment at Armednagar. He has held a commission with the York and Lanes for eleven years and has served at Dynapore, Delhi, Kamptee and Ahmednagar.

He was educated at Rossall School and was for a time an engineer at Manvers Main Collieries; he will also be remembered as an officer in the Territorial section of the 5th York and Lanes Regiment.

When he lived here Captain Thomson played a leading part in the social life of the district, and among his main interests were the Operatic Society and Toc H. Captain Thomson told a “‘Times” representative yesterday that most of the 800 men stationed with him in India came from this district and each Saturday many of them received a copy of the “South Yorkshire Times” from home.

The arrival of the news from the home front is eagerly awaited, and provides topics for discussion for the next few days.

Incidentally, the Battalion will leave India on December 4th for Khartoum.
