Coal Aston Beat Wath
The one bright spot in Wath’s defeat by Coal Aston at Dronfield on Saturday, was the forceful batting of ex-Rawmarsh captain Geoff Griffiths. Going into bat with the Wath score standing at 18 for 2, he added 33 in a third wicket stand with B. Thorpe.
When he was bowled for 37 by Shaw, the visitors’ total stood at 86 for 4, and with the fall of Griffith’s wicket went any hopes Wath had of emulating the home side’s total of 136 — 8 declared.
Only Thorpe and B. Walker (17) reached double figures besides Griffiths in what was a poor batting display- by the visitors.
Highlights of the Coal Aston innings was provided by Keith footballer. He scored a solid 38 and was ably supported by G. Shaw (25). Best bowling of the day came froth G. Shaw (4-15) for the home team, and a return of 3-37 by R. Clarke for the visitors .
Final scores were. Coal Aston 136-8 declared, Wath Athletic 113.
