Coal From Sidings
Wath Men Fined
Abraham Gething (19), trammer, and Harry Stanton (31), miner, both of Wath were charged at Rotherham, West Riding Police Court on Monday with having stolen 19 cwts. of coal from the L.N.E.R. sidings at Wath on July 19th. Mr. A. S. Furniss prosecuted.
P.c. Flint gave evidence of keeping observations from 11.30 p.m. to 11.50 p.m. and seeing defendants take coal from wagons in the siding. He recovered 10 cwts. of coal from Stanton’s house and the other nine cwts. were found round about the house, which was near the sidings. The coal was worth 19s.
Defendants were each fined 50s, as were Charles W. Cotton (23), trammer, and Wilfred Grice (30) miner, both of Wath, who stole 10 cwts. on the same night.
