Coal Queen Finalist
For years Pat Kirwan’s father has been tempting her to enter the Coal Queen competition, but each year she has been too young. This year Pat, of 121 Oak Road, Wath, has entered the competition and has qualified for the finals.
She will be judged together with 13 other finalists at Pontefract on June 13th, when she will be keeping her fingers crossed with other members of the family, in the hope that she will win the title.
Pat told me this week: “My family are thrilled to bits that I have reached the finals – Dad has been trying to get me to enter for years, but I have always been too young. I think it will be good experience for me.”
She hopes to become a photographic model, but does not think she would like the life of a catwalk model.
Eighteen-years-old Pat has done a little modelling in her life. She worked as photographic model for an amateur photography class at Dearnside Secondary School when she was 16 and has also modelled for her uncle, who is an amateur photographer.
“I first got round to doing some photography when I was working in Goldthorpe and Jack Ellis, the professional photographer, asked me if I would like to do some modelling,” she said.
Pat is an employee of Joseph Peck Ltd.
