Curate Leaving

After holding a curacy at Wath Parish Church for nine months, the Rev. G.H. Ward, M.A. will on March 31st leave to take up the duties of curate in charge of four daughter churches in Goole.

The second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Ward now of Wood Farm, Sprotborough, Mr Ward was born at Cadeby and was educated at the Sprotborough Church of England School and Mexborough Secondary School. He went on to Sheffield University and took his Arts degree.

On leaving the University he joined the teaching staff of the Newstead School, Doune, near Stirling and then became a housemaster at Strathallan, Forgandenny, near Perth. His next post was at Southend Municipal College, whence he went to Ridley Hall, Cambridge, for his theological training.

In May, 1937, he was ordained deacon and appointed to a title at Wath, and his ordination as priest took place in June last year.

Mr. Ward brought much energy to his work in the Wath Parish, and he will be especially remembered in connection with the Adwick-on-Dearne Church, of which he has had charge. He took a prominent part in the development of the Young Men’s Fellowship and Club.
