Drunk and Refusing to Quit at West Melton
William Pashley, West Melton, was summoned for having been drunk and for having refused to quit the licensed premises of George English, at West Melton, on the 5th inst.
A police officer visited the public house where he saw the defendant in a drunken state. He helped the landlord to put him out.
Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s. including costs.
Silas Stanley, of Winterwell road, West Melton, was summoned for a similar offence stated to have been committed at the Crown Inn, West Melton on the Ist February .
The landlord (John Hepworth) said defendant was in his house on the night named. About a quarter to ten o’clock, three of them had a pint of beer, and they commenced to sing songs, whereupon he (the landlord) went to them and told them that he did not allow singing on a Sunday.
Defendant and his companions then began to use some “sauce” and when requested to leave they refused.
Police constable Oxley shortly after it arrived, and assisted him to turn the defendant out.
Police constable Oxley said the public house was in an uproar when he got there. Defendant was using bad language. Witness assistant the landlord in getting him out.
Defendant : I was going out when Oxley came into the house.
Mrs. Hepworth, the landlady, corroborated the evidence of the previous witness. They had had a great deal of trouble with the defendant and suchlike, and they wished to stop it.
Defendant alleged that the landlord called him a fool name, and on behalf of his statement he put two witnesses is the box.
The magistrates fined the defendant 20e. including costs.
