Drunkenness

Peter Early, labourer of Wath, and Charles Wright, miner, of the same place, were summoned for having been drunk at Wath on 16 April.

About 11:20 o’clock on the day named the two defendants were drunk in Wath market. They were also disorderly. A policeman requested them to go home, and told them they would be reported. Earlier had been previously convicted.

The magistrates fined Early 7s 6d and costs, and Rice 5s and costs.

William Lockwood, Taylor of Swinton was fined 3s and costs for having been drunk on the highway at Swinton on 20 April.

Defendant said he had nothing to say, except that he was very sorry for what had occurred. About 6 o’clock in the evening defendant was found drunk. He was also using bad language. He had one previous conviction recorded against him.

John Noble, miner, of West Melton, who did not appear, was fined 5s and costs for having been drunk on 16 April.

Police constable Morley saw the defendant drunk at West Melton making use of bad language on 16th ult.

James Harris, labourer, West Melton, was ordered to pay a similar fine for having been drunk on the evening of the 19th ult.

Police constable Morley said he found defendant in York Street, West Melton.
