Edward Bowen’s Move.
This week Edward Bowen, the former Wath centre-forward. has been transferred from Arsenal to Northampton. Bowen was first introduced to good class football by Mexboro’ four years ago; but he did not settle with them and the credit of developing him into a player of real promise goes to Wath. They persevered with him until his crudenes, gave way to method, and he became the most effective, if not the most polished centre-forward they have had since the war.
Two seasons ago he attracted the attention of Arsenal and was transferred to them. He has done -well with that club in the London Combination games but has not had an opportunity al the Football League side.
On Monday he scored three goals against Clapton in a Combination match and his transfer to Northampton followed. Northampton have been seeking a centre-forward since they lost the services of Loasby in December through a leg fracture, so Bowen is to get immediately his first chance in Football League class.
The transfer of Bowen to Arsenal was made in February, 1926, and the fee was the highest ever received by Wath for a player of £500.
