Father and Son in Wath ‘Field’

Father and son at Wath are to contest two seats in the local elections next week-end, hoping to bring the views of the Democratic Party to the all-Labour Council. They are Messrs. Harold William Hart, (44) and William Edward Hart (22), both of 12, Wombwell Avenue, Wath.

Mr. Hart joined the Democratic Party, which was formed, a year ago last summer. His son became a member six months ago.  Mr. Hart, an employee at Central Workshops, Elsecar Main Colliery, said he agreed two months ago to contest the Melton seat, and said that his son followed suit soon after.

Mr. Hart Jun., a fork lift driver at Dale Browns, is to contest the seat at Winterwell. Although the son is young to be entering local government his father said “I think that the younger a candidate is the better – we want young people on the Council.” They do not discuss their political views with each other, but Mr. Hart said: “basically our views are those of the Party, but we both have different ideas for our own wards”.
