Flashback To 1939
So few young people seem interested in first aid work these days that Mr. Samuel Green, of 48, Cutts Avenue, Wath, thought this picture of Wath Main Colliery’s Ambulance team of 1939 might stimulate some local interest.
Mr. Green is at present at Manvers Main Colliery training apprentices in ambulance work.
Reading from left to right, the picture includes Mr. S. Taylor (Instructor), Mr. W. Ballans, Mr. Alwyn Fairhurst (manager at that time), Mr. E. Hessam, Mr. E. Purcell and Mr. Green.
The trophies in the picture are the Soar Cup, the Castleford Cup, the Wood Shield, and the Dr. King Shield and the Watkin Shield, for the Wombwell Division.
It was probably the best year the team had in competitive work.
