Former Wath Vicar is New Bishop
His many friends and former parishioners at Wath will be delighted to learn of the appointment, announced this week, of Canon Lewis Evan Meredith, Vicar and Rural Dean of Eastbourne and Canon and Prebendary of ham said in Chichester Cathedral, as Suffragan Bishop of Dover.
Canon Meredith, who came to Wath as vicar in 1931 from Canterbury Cathedral where he was Minor Canon, Precentor and Sacrist, went in 1936 to the living of St John, Bognor Regis, and for the last 10 years has been Vicar of Eastbourne.
He was educated at Trinity College Cambridge and obtained his MA degree and received his theological training at Wescott House, Cambridge.
He was made deacon in 1923 at Lichfield, where he was priested two years later. He was curate of Oswestry before securing preferment to Canterbury.
