Onlookers at the foundation stone laying ceremony at the new Wath Wesleyan Reform Church on Saturday.
Representatives of many Wath churches attended the stone-laying ceremony at the new School-Church of the Rotherham and Mexborough circuit of the Wesleyan Reform Union in Coronation Road, Wath, on Saturday. Among those who saw sixteen foundation stones laid were the Vicar, the Rev. Bertram Russell, Coun. W. Popplewell (Gorehill Methodist), and Captain Chisholm, of the Wath Corps of the Salvation Army. Coun. W. Beevers, Urban Council chairman, presided, and the Salvation Army Band accompanied the hymns.
The School-Church is being erected on a site bought from the Urban Council seventeen, years ago, and it is to be completed by June. The total cost, is estimated at £1,100. There has been a Wesleyan Reform Church in the town for more than fifty years, in Church Lane. The local community hope that in their new home they will be able to exert a wider Influence in one of the town’s principal areas of population.
