Game Trespass at Wath

Alfred Lindley. Frederick  Lindley, and William Shaw, of Swinton, were each summoned for having trespassed on land in the occupation of William Gawtress, at Wath, on the 19th October in search of rabbit,

Sergt Lyttle stated that about ten minutes to six o’clock on the night of the 19th October, he was near a fleld in the township of With, belonging to Lord Fitzwilliam and in the occupation of Wm. Gawtress. He saw Alfred Lindley in a stooping position against a rabbit hole, and while he was watching him he saw the other two defendants come out of a gorse and join Alfred. On seeing witness they all ran away. Witness gave chase and succeeded in capturing Alfred on whom he found a ferret.

Alfred Lindley did not appear and a warrant was issued for his apprehension, and the other two defendants, who denied the offence. were fined 20s. including costs each.

Against Alfred there were no less than eighteen previous convictions.
