Gifts for Wath Rescue Worker
Presentation to Mr J.W.Poole
At the annual meeting of Wath and District Rescue Workers Association on Saturday a presentation of a framed address and wallet was made to Mr JW Poole, 19, Charles Road, Wath on Dearne, to mark his retirement after 25 years service at Wath and District Central Rescue Station.
Mr CW Whiteley, president of the Association, said to all rescue workers in this area Mr Poole was a popular figure and his experience and knowledge of every class of rescue work had made him indispensable at every fire and explosion in recent years. He was equally well known for his part in first aid work and had received highest honours for his service.
The presentation was made by the oldest and youngest rescue men present, Mr F Bailey, and Barnburgh Main (with a two-year service) and Mr Langstaff, of Kilnhurst, who is just out of his training.
Presenting the address, Mr Bailey said he had known Mr Poole for many years and was proud to make this presentation to an old and trusted friend. He had spent many happy houses in the company of Mr Poole at the rescue station and elsewhere, and hoped that rescue men would have the benefit of his knowledge and experience for many years.
Unique Position
Mr Poole thanked the men of the Rescue Association for their gesture and said it was a great pleasure to come back among old friends. It was a great work on which they were engaged and he had known it in all its phases. Mr Poole said he held a unique position in Rescue Association work as he was a founder member of the Brodsworth Association and he was very proud of the fact that his card was “Number 1.”
He wish them every success and said if they carried out future operations as they had carried out past operations they would have reason to be very proud of themselves.
The presentation was held at the Hollies Club, Wath on Dearne. Bad weather presented many from attending, among them Mr A Roberts of Barnburgh, who should have made a presentation as the oldest rescue man.
