Fine Old West Melton Couple

A fine old West Melton couple, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gray, 21 (picture) Rotherham Road, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary today (Friday).
A life-long resident of West Melton, Mr. Gray commenced work at Cottonwood Colliery at the age of 13. and retired about five years ago, on the closing down of the Swallow Wood seam. After thirty-three years’ service he was presented with an oak clock by his workmates. He is now 73 years of age and enjoys excellent health. Mrs. Gray is 70. She is also a native of West Melton, and, with her husband, takes a keen interest in local affairs. They have lived for 20 years in Rotherham Road, and formerly in Firth Road. They have six daughters and a son (all married), seventeen grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Gray have been regular readers of the “South Yorkshire Times” since their wedding day.
