Golden Wedding – Ricketts

Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Ricketts of 52, Brampton Road, West Melton, have recently celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

They were married by the late Canon A. E. Sorby at Darfield Parish Church on May 2nd, 1894. After the ceremony a peal was rung on the church bells in their honour. Mr. Ricketts is a native of Haddenham, near Aylesbury, Bucks.  He came to Yorkshire when he was 19, and took up residence at Darfield working for a local builder and also at Wombwell Pottery.

Mr. Ricketts later came to West Melton and worked at Wath Main Colliery for many years.  On his retirement, some 19 years ago, officials of the colliery presented him with a timepiece suitably inscribed.
