Golden Wedding – Mr & Mrs Round

Golden Wedding.

Mr. and Mrs John Round, of 116, Sandymount Road, Wath celebrate their golden wedding to-day (Friday).

They were married at Castleford Old Church on Aug. 21st 1892, and have lived at Wath for about 25 years. Mr. Round, a native of Tipton, Staffordshire, was a miner at Manvers Main Colliery until his retirement four years ago. He is 67, and his wife, who is a native of West Melton, is 70.

Mr. Round came in 1880 to Jump, and lived there for two years, then moving to Darfeld He worked at the Houghton Main Colliery from 1886, and later at Manvers Main (No. 2 Pit) for four or five years Mr. Round stayed at Manvers until 1896 and then went sinking at Grimethorpe, where he saw Mr. Billy Joyner bring up the first piece of coal in August, 1897, and where later, when the tubbing gave way and water broke in, he assisted in the drainage work.

He returned to Manvers (No 3 Pit) to 1907, where he stayed until his retirement.

Mr. and Mrs Round have three daughters and two sons, fourteen grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild
