Heat Win For Wath Girl Organist.

August 1969

South Yorkshire Times, August 16th, 1969.

Among the winners in a people talent contest held at a Clacton holiday camp was 15 years old Maureen Fitzgerald, of Sandymount Road, Wath, who has been playing the organ in northern clubs for some time.

Maureen won her heart with “El Cumbenchero”, a brilliant number on the organ. Maureen, who has left school, intends to go on the stage as soon as she can, and her parents, Mr. an Mrs. H. Fitzgerald are confident she will achieve this ambition for she is already a semi professional.

If she wins the £1,000 first prize for the talent contest, Maureen says she would split it among her family because they have just bought her a new £600 organ.
