Horse Over.

Jose Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Davis, ” Moorlands,’ High Street, Wath -would probably be very surprised if she heard it said that her hobby is collecting. But to a mere outsider who saw her imposing array of medals, rosettes and certificates this would be quite a natural supposition.

Jose has, however, collected them the hard way—by winning them herself at horse – shows and gymkhanas. Now, at 14, she is quite a veteran.

At Thorpe Hesley show on Saturday she won three firsts and a second prize in the gymkhana events. and was third in the Best Pony class.

At the recent Hickleton Show she came second in the Best Pony class and also in the open and children’s Musical Chairs.

Jose was four when she rode her first pony, “Trickster” and he still remains a favourite although he is more often used by eight-years-old brother Gordon and five-years-old Juliet. For the last three seasons Jose has ridden to victory on “Bracken” who is stabled nearby and with whom she regularly attends the Wentworth and District Pony Club, of which she has been a member since its inauguration.

Jose is also a competent swimmer, and last year won two first prizes in the Junior Women’s Championship of Wath. She is a pupil at Wath Grammar School.
