Interdepartmental Trophy Presented to Colliery Cricket Team
Mr O. J. Phillipson, managing director of Manvers Main Collieries Ltd., presented the Lloyd Knock-out Cricket Cup trophy to Tommy Hart, the Mexborough bowler, and captain of the Bamburgh side which won the inter-departmental trophy in a match against the Staff at Wath, at a dinner at the New Mason’s Arms, Mexborough, on Saturday. Replicas were received by members of the team.
Mr. G. C. Payne, manager of Barnburgh Colliery, presided, and among those present were Mr. J. Bell, Mr J Graham, Commander H. H. G. Begbie, Mr. E. T. John, Mr. J. B. Thompson and Mr. F. Cook.
Mr. J. E. Harper, chief enginewright at Bamburgh, proposed the ” Welfare, Betterment and Recreation Department and the Barnburgh side,” Commander Begbie and Tommy Hart responding.
Mr. R. Cowles under-manager at Barnburgh, proposed the guests, and the toast was responded to by Mr. Philipsonand Mr. Bell.
