Montagu Cup (Second Round Replay).
Spectators “Invade” Pitch
Second Half Scene at Kilnhurst
Kilnhurst 0 Manvers Main 1
Manvers went a step nearer to winning the Cup again by beating Kilnhurst in the replay at Kilnhurst on Christmas Day, but only by the Committee’s judgment. Manvers were winning 1-0 when Kilnhurst spectators “invaded” the pitch during the second half.
Manvers began with fine movements and were too good for their less experienced opponents. Kilnhurst, however, made some good moves, but these were easily checked by the Manvers defence. During the whole of the first half White, the Mainers goalkeeper, touched the ball only once. Manvers started the second half in great style and after 16 minutes took the lead. They were awarded a corner, and from a beautiful centre by Phillips, MORRALEE scored.
Just after, the Kilnhurst spectators went on to the field, and the referee and players were forced to leave.
Committee’s Decision
At a meeting of the Hospital Cup Committee on Monday, after reports by the referee, Manvers and Kilnhurst representatives had been heard, it was decided that Manners should go on to the next round. It was felt that sufficient care had not been taken in keeping the spectators in order.
