Long Service for Wath Organist

The services at the Brampton Bierlow Parish Church on Sunday had an extra significance for Mr Frank Wilcock, for he was celebrating his 25th anniversary as organist at the church.

After been deputy organist at the Wath Parish Church, Mr Wilcock was appointed organist at Brampton on June 12, 1912, under the Rev H Hubbard.

Three years later, when the Rev C L Suggit took cover, Mr Wilcock was given the dual position of organist and choir master, a position which he still holds. Later he was elected People Warden, and 18 months ago he was appointed virgin. He thus now holds four of the most important positions in the church’s activities.

Under Mr Wilcock guidance, the Parish Church Choir go from strength to strength.

Mr Wilcock studied under the late Mr GM Coates of Wath Parish Church and the late Mr JT Biltcliffe of St Edwards Church Barnsley.

As an organist Mr Wilcock has won much praise, and it is a source of much regret that he no longer gives his monthly recitals, which was so popular. As a choirmaster, his perseverance and ability are fully shown by the lavish praise that is bestowed on the voluntary choir of 12 boys and eight men.

Mr Wilcock is also an expert campanologist, and he regularly plays the tubular bells in the church belfry.
