Stalemate At Hampden Road

Manvers 0  Frickley 0

Frickley, visitors to Hampden Road on Saturday, shared the points with Manvers in a goalless game.

The result was a true reflection of the play, neither side in fast, even play, being able to score. Manvers had the ball in the net after 20 minutes but the referee ruled the ball out of touch before Phillips, the left winger, screwed it in. Halliwell, at centre forward, making his debut with Manvers tested Wildman with two excellent shos. Both goalkeepers were well in the picture during the second half and in a Manvers attatck Halliwell came near with a header.

Their defence did well to weather a strong Frickley attack in the later stages. Outstanding features were Wildman’s keeping of Frickley goal, and the accurate centres of left winger Webster Phillips played one of his best games for Manvers. Mason, in goal, displayed increased confidence, Bates, Rooney and Deakin formed the core of a solid defence. and Coulson on the right wing was the best of the other forwards.

Denaby’s Winning Rally

Denaby Utd 3  Upton Colliery 2

Denaby United beat Upton Colliery 3-2 at Denaby on Saturday, but there were occasions in the second half, even after Denaby had regained the lead, when it looked as if Upton would be the winners

The result of the game was mainly due to the soundness of the Denaby defence after being in difficulties in the early stages.

The interval arrived with each team having scored twice, then a rally by Denaby brought them both points. WALKER (2) and C. SHEPHARD scored for Denaby, while WHITE and GREY (penalty) scored for Upton.
