Manvers Out of Luck
Manvers Main 1 Sheffield Wednesday Reserves 2
Sheffield Wednesday Reserves were lucky to beat Manvers Main by the odd goal in three on Saturday, at Mexborough. Manvers started well, and after a brilliant dash through by Copnell, VICKERS beat Gadsby with a low shot. Wednesday then pressed and after a few minutes a misunderstanding between a full-back and the goalkeeper enabled BRISCOE to score a simple goal. Play was very even until the Sheffield inside-left, IBBOTSON, scored from out on the wing. Manvers attacked and from a corner Vickers had the bad luck to head over the bar. A few minutes from the end the Sheffield left winger missed from a few yards range with Siddall on the floor. Swift and Briscoe were the best for the visitors, with Phillips, Vickers and Deakin playing well for Manvers.
Barnsley Reserves 2 Denaby United 2
Denaby’s Point at Oakwell
Denaby United, visiting Oakwell, did well to bring back a point by drawing 2-2 with Barnsley Reserves. The game was evenly contested. With more steadiness in front of goal Denaby might have won. GUEST and GIBBS scored for Denaby, and FISHER and OUTRAM for Barnsley. Shephard, Gibbs, Larkin and Machin did well for Denaby, and Shotton, Clegg, Clayton and Fisher for Barnsley.
Upton 2 Wath Wanderers 0
Wath Goalkeeper Shines
Wath Wanderers were beaten 2-0 at Upton, and might have suffered a heavier reverse but for brilliant goalkeeping by Greaves and faulty finish by the Colliery forwards. In the first half Upton attacked continually, but their forwards were unable to translate their superiority into goals, and the interval arrived without a score. Upton’s marksmanship improved after the interval, and Greaves distinguished himself. He was beaten by a penalty
