Ten Men Victory
Manvers Main 5 Stocksbridge Works 1
Despite the fact that they played with ten men for most of the game — Burkinshaw, the right winger, was injured soon after the start and left the field — Manvers completed the double by beating a weak Stocksbridge Works team at Hampden Road.
Stocksbridge were without Harrison (centre-half) and Crawshaw (outside-left). The opening exchanges were fairly even, but Manvers afterwards took control. They did not score, however, until near the interval. RAYNOR scoring in a goalmouth scramble.
In the second half the Stocksbridge defence was overworked, and Manvers scored through MORRALEE (2), RAYNOR and COCKER. Near the end BLACKBURN netted for the visitors, for whom Butcher (goalkeeper), Ellison and Kippax (full backs), were the only players to distinguish themselves.
All Manvers’ players did well and it would be unfair to single any one player for credit.
