A Thurnscoe miner was fined £2 with £1 5s costs at Doncaster West Riding Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, for stealing an orange.
The holiday “atmosphere” caused a big fall in South Yorkshire coal last week production falling by more than 83,000 tons to 619,225 tons.
Members of Mexborough and District Rotary Club observed a silence at their weekly luncheon on Tuesday in sympathy for Mr. W. P. Turner, a founder member, who has been bereaved by the death of his wife.
Mr. Charles Etches Webster, of Bispham, Blackpool, who left £25,079 gross (£12.564 net), left £20 to the trustees of the Baptist Church, Conisbrough, in memory of his father and mother—”two of the best.”
Sixteen fire calls were answered in 11 hours at Mexborough Divisional Fire Station on Monday. Over 30 calls had been received since Friday. Most of Monday’s calls involved grass and bracken fires.
